I love Shirley Temples. The drink, that is (though the little girl was quite adorable as well). They remind me of being a kid, when money wasn't an issue and bread didn't make you fat and being oblivious to the world around you was actually a good thing.
As someone who is newly 21 but not interested in getting shwastey on nasty beer, I like to pretend I'm a mixologist and try new things here and there.
I've had many trials of spiking Shirley Temples, but there was one problem: I could still taste the alcohol. How am I supposed to feel like a kid again if I can taste liquor in my drink?! (Side note: did anyone else feel like they accidentally got alcoholic drinks at restaurants sometimes? I can remember several times tasting a bad soda and saying "mom, I think I got alcohol.")
Anyway, last night, I discovered a delicious way to enjoy Shirley Temples. And it was right under my nose the whole time -- one of my favorite liquors.
Bacardi Limon, a delicious citrus rum from a trusted rum source.
Now, I'm sure there are plenty of other delicious spikey additions to Shirley Temples, but the subtle citrus-y goodness added to last night's escape to childhood in a glass was so good that I had to write about it.
Bacardi makes a lot of other flavored rums, so maybe I'll keep exploring those and see how it turns out.

'Til next time,
Alexis
